Advanced Look: KoPoint Season Three

kopoint_logo_transparent_smallestKoPoint Season Three will officially begin on Monday, February 11th. Show production is already underway.

KoPoint programs are rolled together in tightly packaged ‘seasons’ (1, 2). Each season features a handful of carefully crafted shows. Hosts gather on weeknights at the KoPoint studio and record structured conversations as episodes. Episodes from each program are rolled weekdays on the primary KoPoint site and feed.

Time between seasons is spent examining and improving content, tweaking website and distribution platforms, negotiating with underwriting partners, and testing future projects.

Season Three will feature our strongest slate of programs to date:

We’ll also continue to exclusively syndicate several stellar programs:

Several shows will emerge as the season progresses, a zombie storytelling show, a travel program, a yet-to-be titled storytelling show featuring members of the NYC stand-up comedy community, and AFK On Air.

KoPoint Season Three is our second year as a podcast content company. The first year was spent learning how to create and package great content. During our second year, in an effort to emphasize quality over quantity, KoPoint will refine both our content and web presence.

Thanks for listening. Stay tuned.

Interviews Live From NYC Comic Con 2012 – KoPoint Comics, EP 16

Yes, Loyal Listeners, the spectacular KoPoint Comic Book Show podcast attended and reported from this year’s New York Comic Con. The KoPoint comic book team – including Jeff Newelt (in absentia), Jon Lazar, Megan Sass, Michele Reznik, and myself – buzzed the floor at booth 507 with our friends Hazarai http://hazarai.com and recorded a number of stellar interviews with comic book industry creators, publishers, and professionals.

We asked each comic book guest three questions:

  • What’s the most important collectable in your collection, and why?
  • What book or graphic novel would you recommend to someone new to the medium?
  • What cool projects are you working on right now?

Hazarai will soon publish individual audio and video clips from New York Comic Con. During the Con chaos, over the weekend I edited and processed the best of our interviews. These short clips are gathered together here in one epic episode.

Hope you dig the show.

KoPoint Comics, EP 015 – SD Comic Con Roundup

Editor’s Note: This episode was recorded on the roof of our beloved Manhattan studio. Sadly, take-one was lost as our recording device (read: iPhone) over heated. The show, however, must go on! @JustJon and I moved to the shade, grabbed a new phone, and recorded take-two. Hope you enjoy it! DHP

It’s that time of year again for San Diego Comic Con, and after some technical issues, Dan and Jon take a look at all the big comic book and movie announcements coming out of SDCC. From Neil Gaiman’s return to Sandman to Marvel Now!, they review San Diego from New York. Here are a few of the big headlines from this year’s #SDCC:

Bonus: The KoPoint Comic Book Show quick review of The Amazing Spider-Man movie! Does Spider-Man swing? Dan and Jon give their take on the latest take on the web spinner.

  • Jon: Boo
  • Dan: Yay!

KoPoint Comics, EP 012 – Interview with Jim McLauchlin of the Hero Initiative

Jim McLauchlin. Photo: Hero Initiative

If you read comic books during the 1990′s, you read Wizard: The Guide to Comics. And if you read Wizard, you laughed at the witty retorts and letters-c0lum banter filed each month by Jim McLauchlin. Wizard, now defunct, was the barometer of hip in the comic book industry for half a generation. If Wizard set the agenda for the comic book industry for the 1990s, Mr. McLaughlin’s reports were it’s narrative. And that narrative was hilarious. The former editor and senior writer also provided a much-needed sense of levity at a time of doom and gloom in the comic book industry.

Upon leaving the magazine in the early 2000s, Mr. McLaughlin be went to work for Top Cow Productions, a well-known publishing entity within the Image Comics umbrella.

Today, Mr. McLauchlin works closely with the Hero Initiative, a not-for-profit agency organization that acts as a “financial safety net” for comic book creators.

In this episode of the KoPoint Comic Book Show, co-host Dan Patterson talks with Mr. McLaughlin about making the transition from sports writing to comic books, his career at Wizard, the Hero Initiative, and the changing nature of the comic book industry.
